WHERE IS TANRALLT?
Capel Curig is famous for its close affinity with the outdoors and agriculture, indeed one of the hill farms was home to Thomas Firbank the author of ‘I Bought a Mountain’.Before long you will want to keep a piece of this paradise yourself, and Tanrallt can give you those memories forever!
It is also the base for the national mountaineering centre Plas Y Brenin, where an exciting mixture of adventure days can be booked, from climbing, sea kayaking, and mountain walking.
Capel Curig has a fantastic atmosphere of traditional Welsh life, mixed with the vibrance of outdoor adventure.
The village itself has three hotels all serving local produce and ales, a well stocked shop, and two cafes. There are wonderful riverside walks for all abilities taking in the natural beauty and wildlife, catch a glimpse of the otters playing in the river, but you have to be up early! or spot a pipistrelle bat at dusk, or simply settle for the dance of the Dipper on the banks of the Llugwy.

The Gwydyr forest is not only home to unique forest walks with an abundance of wildlife, but is home to some fantastic mountain bike trails, geared for all abilities. Bike hire is available in nearby Betws Y Coed.
Capel Curig really is ‘The Heart of Snowdonia’ the majestic Mount Snowdon horseshoe with the twin lakes, dominates the skyline ‘The best view in Snowdonia’ The Times 2009.
The other great peak which shelters the village is Moel Siabod, although not as high as Snowdon, covers a great landmass, all the way to nearby Blaenau Ffestiniog and Dolwyddelan. The Glyderau and Carneddau mountain ranges are only 5miles from Capel Curig .
North Wales is steaped in history, and with its unique climate, the landscape emits an ethereal beauty found nowhere else in the United Kingdom.
Wales’ past can be found everywhere, with fantastic day trips to mountain tops to see iron age hill forts, to our formidable castles, and keeps.
Due to the unique climate amazing gardens have been created, like those at the world famous Bodnant and Penrhyn castle gardens.
The unique geographical features of North Wales means that even though it is rugged and mountainous, a fantastic coastline exists with award winning beaches, all within easy reach of Capel Curig.
The nearby holiday village of Betws Y Coed, is 3miles away and is known as the ‘Ambleside of Wales’ with its designer shops, station, numerous cafes and restaurants, and can be reached by a scenic footpath from Capel Curig.
